Engaging vulnerable young people:
the Aotearoa New Zealand context
How We Care | Practitioner Guidance Papers
About this guidance
How can organisations create meaningful engagement with vulnerable children and young people, supporting them to become confident and secure young adults and even to become advocates for change in the childcare systems to support future generations?
In these practitioner guidance papers we explore the approaches of three organisations working in the Aotearoa New Zealand context supporting vulnerable tamariki (children) rangatahi (young people) who have experienced different types of family disruption including family violence at home, having a parent or caregiver in jail and living, or having previously lived, in foster or residential care. These papers explore how vulnerable young people can be encouraged to engage with support services, advocate for themselves and create change within the system.
