International Kinship Care: Case Studies from Brazil and Canada

Filipe Meirelles

About this webinar

As families become increasingly mobile, child protection systems are being challenged to think beyond national borders. Yet, international kinship care remains largely invisible in policy and practice discussions.

Join experts from Family for Every Child and International Social Service (ISS) as we explore the growing role of international kinship care and why it must be part of any national conversation about children's care, protection and permanency. Drawing on emerging global evidence, we will examine the scale of cross-border family care, the challenges faced by children and families, and the opportunities that international kinship care presents for securing safe, stable and loving family-based care.

The webinar will also feature a real-world case study from Canada and Brazil, highlighting practical lessons on how professionals can successfully support children and relatives when family networks extend across borders.

Who should attend? Policymakers, social workers, child protection professionals, kinship care practitioners, researchers and anyone interested in children's rights and family-based care.

Speakers:

  • Sylvie Lapointe, ISS, Canada
  • Raum Baptista, ABTH, Brazil
  • Carolyn Housman, CFAB, UK
  • Gemma Gilham, Family for Every Child (Moderator)

This webinar will be hosted in English, with Portuguese and Spanish interpretation.
