The Children on the Move campaign 2026 marks the third year of focusing on the need to protect children on the move's right to identity. The campaign has been developed by the network of locally led member organisations of Family for Every Child, calling for change at national and global levels.

Identity rights encompass a child’s legal, cultural and social identity, including birth registration, nationality, family relations and cultural heritage, as protected under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. A life on the move, when people are displaced by war, conflict or natural disaster, increases the risk of children being deprived of their identity rights.

Our campaign calls attention to various causes of identity rights violations experienced by children and families around the world, including barriers to birth registration, loss of cultural identity through displacement, and statelessness. This year, the campaign is led by six of Family for Every Child’s member organisations in six different countries:

  • Juconi, Mexico
  • Taller De Vida, Colombia
  • Conacmi, Guatemala
  • Voice of Children, Nepal
  • Children and Families Across Borders, United Kingdom
  • METAdrasi, Greece

Our call

The campaign calls for all states to do more to promote, protect and respect the right of every child to identity, without discrimination. We call for all barriers to birth registration to be removed, and for children on the move to receive support to maintain their family connections and cultural identity.
