National Experiences in Strengthening Kinship Care

Filipe Meirelles

In 2025, Family for Every Child members in Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala and Paraguay translated the Global Kinship Care Guidance - 'How to support kinship care: Lessons learnt from around the world' into both Spanish and Portuguese.

We are now working to disseminate the guidance across Latin America. With a focus on maintaining family and community life for children and adolescents living in vulnerable situations, each country is working to promote the Global Guidance in its own context.

To officially launch the new versions of the guidance, our members will jointly host this webinar on 4 December. We will discuss kinship care, exploring the concept of family in a broader sense and aiming to prevent the unnecessary separation of children from their original context and consequent institutionalisation.

Speakers

  • Anally Maldonado (CONACMI, Guatemala)
  • Claudia Cabral (ABTH, Brazil)
  • Alejandra Rodríguez (Enfoque Niñez, Paraguay)
  • Stella Duque Cuesta (Taller de Vida, Colombia)
